Blue Skies

I might have more to say later, but right now I'll leave you with the skies from this morning's sunrise and this afternoon's clouds

Sunrise on Saturday morning - one lonely pink cumulus cloud

The above pictures are from sunrise Sun morning. GORGEOUS. Especially when the sun was GLOWING under the clouds. Lovely

These are from the drive to work this afternoon. In hindsight, perhaps I shouldn't take pictures while driving, but look at these clouds! Tell me you wouldn't want to remember that sky. You can't. Or if you can, I'm going to throw you on your back and make you watch the sky until you get your sense of whimsy and wonder back.

I'm feeling a little...morose? Nostalgic? Not sure what I'm feeling, but it's not conducive to long-form thought. Or it could be another symptom of the exhaustion that just won't go away. Like herpes. Only not as contagious. So I will get a good night's sleep in my wonderful new apartment and look at these pictures of the beautiful day we had today and remind myself that there is more in this world than work, more than loneliness, and more than any excuse I can think of to be down. And...on that maudlin note (there's the word), here's some Pinkie Pie.

In Pursuit of Internet

So say we, the people, that whosoever does not have Internet will be forced to do actual housework.

Or so it seems. My 3-day quest for Internet has paid dividends, though, so I'm back to being half as productive. OR SO IT SEEMS. But I'm getting ahead of myself. And the pile of dirty laundry, so here's the story.

In ordering online, I could go with A. company, that charges $100.00 for their proprietary equipment but said they could give me service, or B. company that charges $100.00 for install and were pretty sure they could deliver. Of course I went with the one that guaranteed me Internet. Because I am nothing if not an Internet junkie. Just the facts, man.

So Monday I get home from work, very, VERY excited because I have been living for a week and a half in an apartment with no Internet (and no access to say, weather reports or traffic jams). It's tough. These are the dark times. Or they would be if darker times weren't ahead.

I received a box from company A on Monday night. Opened it. And found a modem/router mix that connected to a phone jack. Don't you think someone would have mentioned a phone jack was necessary? So after the impending breakdown (seriously dudes, Internet is important), I called and said "yo, why you need phone line and not tell me?" and lady said "poo poo. Sorry, but they should have said" (she was really, really understanding. I wish I remembered her name cause she gets props.) I hung up the phone with the intention of making a stink on Tuesday, but in the meantime called my BFIBR (best friend in baton rouge) for a shoulder to cry on. She said "OK! Hugs! Then we go searching" (she's really good for comfort then solving the problem. It's awesome)

We searched low then high and found one in the second bedroom. I proceeded and failed to set up the Internet up there, at which point I called company A again and they said they'd send someone out on Tuesday. I went to sleep, exhausted. Like I do.

Tuesday morning comes around and I feel like 7-layer taco dip of sh*$. One that had been left out in the sun all day at the family picnic and when time comes to put up all the food, no one is quite sure if it's still good so they leave it sitting for a while longer. That was me. So I dragged myself to Walgreen's for antibiotics (for a bite of indeterminate nature that looked a bit nasty. Maybe that was part of the reason I felt so bad?) and dragged myself back to the house for a nap. Dude woke me up (not his fault but I was glad I was sleeping downstairs) and proceeded to try to find me Internet.

It turns out the one I was trying to use upstairs wasn't connected to anything. I plead exhaustion.

Since the only other jack didn't work, he installed one for me. I should have baked him cookies or something but I think he just felt bad for me. Either way, I'll take not having to pay another hundred dollars! On the other hand, it still wasn't connected. Someone ELSE had to come out and connect something outside.

At this point, I'm feeling about like this
But dude number 2 came on Wednesday and I now have Internet. Phew. Now if only I can get my washer and dryer connection fixed.
Sad Loki wants me to have clean clothes

Pic update: new apartment

Since I figured out how to do pictures, I will now pic-spam myself.

Here's a slightly dark picture of the stairwell from the couch. I swear I'll get better pictures sometime. Preferably when the sun is shining and I'm not working 70 hour weeks.

See the birdies? They're birdies. My corner antique shelf is up and I have birds flying up the stairs. I'm so. in. love. with. how. it. looks. and. can't. stop. emphasizing. via. punctuation.

Here's a seriously dark picture of the bookcase and curtains. Just cause.

And...I painted. Here's my turquoise/blue/teal color that's on the stairwell and one wall. I love it. It's so much more interesting than plain white. I think the whole room would be too much, but the accent walls are everything I want.

And just for good measure, here's some more Lousiana cloud pics. I love the skies down here.

Untitled. That's right. Can't think of one.

I may have gone a little fangirly on that last post. I admit it. But Loki is the first character/actor I've had a crush on in ages. And he really is more complicated than "I will rule everything" but I admit I was reaching.

So anyway! Here's what I'm working on now.

Trying to spin a bit thicker for my single. This batt came from Spinner Hill, one of the Dizzy deals (I try not to ever go to that site. It's bad for my bank account)

I think I'm doing well? It's hard to tell since it's so dark. I love the colors, but while I'm spinning I keep thinking about what I'm going to make. And coming up with NOTHING. I'm sure it'll make a very pretty mystery object as long as I can keep from over twisting.

In other news, the sky last night was AWESOME. Proof!

In other other news, Blogger is fun when I have all my pictures on Picasa. Yup. Maybe I don't want an iphone after all? Maybe another Android so I can keep the google connectivity?

Drool

Know who I love?

This guy

Nummy.

I do love me some conflict in characters and Loki is the most 3-dimensional villain I've seen in a while.

Edit:
Ok I had to update because I just can't stop thinking about this character. So spoilery things beyond this post and if you haven't watched Thor or the Avengers, go. Really. Go. If only to see hot boys.

You watched yet?

No? All right but don't say I didn't warn you.

The Avengers was great fun as a movie. Yes I'm a Joss Whedon fan and have been since I stumbled on the first Buffy movie at 10 years old. That's 20 years, so I have some street cred there. And he wrote Titan A.E. Did you know that? How awesome was that movie? Ok back to the Avengers. Personally, I think Tom Hiddleston was a great choice as an actor, so I just have to thank Kenneth Brannah for that one. Hiddleston makes the character far more complex than I think another actor could have. There's such subtlety that I can't stop going through the character, which is really what's driving this. I have to get it out of my head.

See, I realize that in still pictures, Hiddleston looks a bit like my ex which makes me wonder why I like him so much. Then I see a clip and realize it's the character I'm drawn to, not the actor (more specifically the way the character is portrayed and written rather than the actor's physical appearance). It's a mix of brashness covering inherent self doubt, a cry for attention, lashing out at himself and family (his birth as a frost monster vs his upbringing as an Asgardian), in addition to his innate sense of mischief. And Hiddleston plays all of it. He never lets you forget that Loki is inherently a good character trapped by his own mistakes. You can see it in the talks with his brother, Thor, in the flashbacks with the army (he is threatened and cannot back down even when you see the doubt about the plan in his eyes), and in the righteous anger (the whole "kneel to me" thing.).

The heroes and villains in superhero movies are rarely complex. Thor is a hardheaded arrogant god who is taught the lesson of humility and compassion. Capt. America wants to serve his country and doesn't seem to be much deeper than that. Tony Stark is, in his words, "a billionaire, playboy, philanthropist" who is brilliant but will do the "good" thing in the end (he's my favorite of the heroes). Red Skull was stereotypical Nazi scumbag, and most of the others are barely memorable. I'm not saying some of them weren't interesting characters, but no one has the depth of Loki.

Ok, I think I'm done now. Going to start daydreaming again.

I saw it and it was THIS BIG

Some say I was crazy for moving to southern Louisiana. Some say I said I was crazy for moving to southern Louisiana. We are all correct. Where else can you find mosquitos who can attack in a swarm in tandem with 3 inch long flying, hissing cockroaches while tripping you in tree roots and kudzu and making sure you can't quite breathe through the water content in the air? There's no place quite like it, that's for sure.

So I moved. Farther into the city, and about 10 minutes north. It didn't help. My house is raised so I think I have more bugs than before. And fleas. 5 days in the new apartment and my cats have fleas. Awesome.

Housework and Killer Dinosaurs

Since I'm working nights, my days are... let's say they're as fluid as the night sky over Antartica. Which is to say, "what?!" So since I woke up at noon, I took a trip to my new house. Or rather, the house I have a key to that is currnetly housing paint and hardware.

My plan is, since I can't actually move anything in yet, I'll paint the accent walls (I get to have accent walls!!!) and get everything ready for when I move the furniture. Downstairs is going to be teal, upstairs, blue and red. I think I'm going to paint some of it in the bathroom and kitchen too, just not sure how that will look yet. I like the thought of color in with all that light, and I'm not planning on moving. Pretty much at all. We'll see how all that goes, but in the meantime, I get colorful walls, an accent picture molding, hardwood floors, and everything I've ever wanted in a place (besides a view of the sunset).
