I have been working for years now and "bettering myself." Not only is that a stupid turn of phrase, but it's hopelessly vague and gives the idea that I'm slathering myself in ideas and will turn out deep fried and glorious.
As we all know, this is rarely the case.
So I'll use this to keep myself accountable, to keep myself on track, and most of all, to amuse myself with my own wittiness in regard to the shit I don't do.
Things I hope to accomplish
1. Grow UP
Meaning clean your house, woman! The clothes on the floor thing is fine for college, but you're nearly 30 and should be able to invite people to your house without saying "wait! I forgot! My apartment caught fire and a band of cannibals decided to take up in my live-in closet so maybe next week?" This also means not using all free time to sit on the couch spinning and watching Netflix. Remember, there is more to life than Supernatural and MST3K movies)
2. Work out/be all productive and stuff
I have this idea that if I work out, everything will follow. I will be healthy, skinny, eat better, happier, etc. All that stuff that requires continual work. And since I don't do it, I'm not many of those things. The eating better and being happier is going pretty well, but everything else just sucks. So depression is nearly gone, but I'm still punishing myself for bad decisions in my 20s. This is my call to stop. After all, we all had that one bad breakup where the ex called us at work from jail to say how much they love us and that they'll call us as soon as they're out and how much they miss us. So we're all in this together. And what this goal is really about is to stop punishing myself for whatever perceived reason. But that's so serious I thought I'd hide it at the bottom.
3. Get out and have a life, or how I learned to stop being a hermit and make friends
Doing pretty well with this one so far actually. I have a few friends (real ones, too) and had a one-night stand. No prospects with boyfriends or anything but I keep telling myself I don't need one. So far, I think I'm full of shit, so I have some explaining to do.
4. TBD
I'm sure I need more, but that's what I'm working on right now.
Good luck, godspeed, and please give yourself a little credit. You're not an idiot. Just lazy.
